Some time ago the council decided to put a new road through Stowmarket to ease congestion in the town (the inner relief road). The road, called the Gypping Way, basically cut Stowmarket in half - including Station Road where OGB's garage stood. To cut a long story short - Barnard's Garage was totally rebuilt on the corner of Station Road and the new Gipping Way (a most prominent position)- right opposite their old abode of Lynton House. It is now one of the biggest VW dealerships in the area.

Lynton House has also been subject to some speculation. Apart from once being the library, this magnificent building was put into the Council's care sometime around the building of the Gipping Way. Needless to say the house fell into disrepair, the staircases and fireplaces all being stolen. Quite recently it has undergone renovation

and is back to its former glory. The locals don't know who is paying for it - but it is rumoured that a businessman of considerable wealth is funding it.

The Barnard name is now most probably better known for the transport company Taylor-Barnard. The story goes that one-day Jack Barnard walked into an ongoing auction, in one of Needham's pubs, where a lot of land was up for sale at Mendlesham Airfield and picked up a snip! The green and yellow lorries of the haulage and storage company are now a familiar sight right across the country.
