The Curtis family is large and extended. As far as I can tell they are not related to the Curtis family of Nazeing a bit further to the south, from which many of the American branches are descended.
My connection moved into London in the late 1800's from Bishop Stortford, Herts, and before
that across the border in North West Essex (Widdington, Ugley,
Birchanger). The family were market gardeners, game keepers and
agricultural workers.
the earliest link I have found is a marriage in 1694.
